Why consider a dental crown or bridge?

Crowns and bridges are fixed restorations designed to replace or reinforce a damaged or missing tooth.

These solutions are often recommended in the following cases:

  • Tooth weakened after root canal treatment;
  • Cracked or fractured tooth;
  • Severely decayed tooth requiring complete restoration;
  • Missing tooth that affects chewing or the appearance of the smile.

What is the difference between a crown and a dental bridge?

The dental crown

A crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that completely covers a decayed or damaged tooth. The dentist shapes part of the natural tooth to make room for the crown, which is then permanently fixed in place. It protects the tooth while restoring its original shape, color, and function.
It can be made from a variety of aesthetic and durable materials, such as ceramic or porcelain, which blend in perfectly with the rest of the teeth.

Dental bridge

A bridge, also known as a “fixed bridge” or “fixed partial denture,” is a restoration that replaces one or more missing teeth. It consists of crowns fused together and supported by the teeth adjacent to the gap. In some cases, the bridge can also be attached to dental implants for greater stability.

How is a crown or bridge fitted?

The dentist carries out a thorough clinical examination and, if necessary, takes X-rays to assess the tooth structure. The tooth to be restored is then prepared with precision to accommodate the crown or serve as a pillar for the bridge.

Using the iTero 3D scan, we take a digital impression without using any paste. This comfortable and precise method allows us to create a perfectly fitted restoration.

During fabrication, a temporary crown may be placed to protect the prepared tooth. Once the crown or bridge is ready, it is securely fixed in the mouth and adjusted to ensure comfort, stability, and aesthetics.
